Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham Awards Miles College a $25,000 Grant

NEWS RELEASE

Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham Awards Miles College a $25,000 Grant for COVID-19 Emergency Student Relief Fund

FAIRFIELD, ALABAMA - The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has awarded a $25,000 Rapid Response Grant to provide emergency assistance to students with financial needs, including housing, food, childcare, transportation, and learning technology in support of President Bobbie Knight’s COVID-19 Emergency Student Relief Fund.

The Rapid Response grant, which was awarded on May 18, 2020, is one of several gifts the College has received to bring immediate relief to the student body.

“We are grateful for the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham for recognizing our needs and supporting the COVID-19 emergency student relief fund,” said Bobbie Knight, President of Miles College. “For us to overcome these unprecedented times, we must continue to make progress together.”

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham was built on and continues to thrive on, the idea that together, we have the power to create transformational change.

“COVID-19 has exposed societal fault lines that disproportionately affect under-resourced populations resulting in financial and emotional hardship for many college students across our region,” said Christopher Nanni, President & CEO of the Community Foundation. “We were happy to support the work that Miles College is doing to help meet the needs of students who have been affected by this pandemic. In addition to providing for basic needs like housing, food, and transportation, this grant will provide resources for remote learning so that students can continue their education throughout this crisis.
